Rhinoplasty(Nose Job)
Rhinoplasty is a facial plastic surgery designed to change the projection, size, and shape of the nose for cosmetic or functional purposes. For many, a nose job can have both physical and emotional benefits. Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job”, reshapes and improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self-confidence. A specific aspect/part or the whole nose can be reshaped according to the needs. You may be seeking to improve the shape of the nose for cosmetic reasons or to reshape the nose to undo any damage following an injury in the past. If your rhinoplasty is being done to improve your appearance rather than your health, you should wait until your nasal bone is fully grown.
Patients who seek out a nose job at AESTHETIQUE centre with plastic surgeon Dr. Sandeep Sharma often feel that the appearance of their nose makes them look less attractive. Rhinoplasty is common due to the influence of the entertainment industry. Nose surgery is often performed to boost a person’s image or to make them appear a certain way on screen. Some people describe wanting to hide their face or avoiding mirrors due to their looks, while others seek more subtle improvements. Nasal disfigurement caused by a disease or traumatic incident can affect a person’s appearance and serve as a negative reminder of the event. Rhinoplasty can help patients improve their confidence, and facial balance, and sometimes also correct breathing problems.
Candidacy
This surgery can change:
- Nose size, in relation to the other facial structures
- Nose profile, with visible humps on the bridge
- Nasal tip, that is large or bulbous, drooping, or too upturned
- Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned – can be narrowed
- Nasal asymmetry and deviation
- A flat/depressed nose – can be raised (Augmentation rhinoplasty: It is performed to increase the projection of a nose. Implants that are made from synthetic materials or the person’s own cartilage are used. People with a flat nose who wish to have a sharp nose are the best candidates for augmentation rhinoplasty).
- A droopy nose tip – can be upturned
- A small nose – can be enlarged
- A crooked nose – can be straightened (most common procedure done at our centre)
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
- Desired nose shape achieved
- Results are seen within a week when the dressing is removed
- No cuts or stitches on the outside
Procedure
Anaesthesia: It can be performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation.
Duration of procedure: The procedure can take 40 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem to be addressed
Incision: The parts of the nose to be altered are accessed through the nostrils, so there are no tell-tale marks on the outside. In some cases, a small incision is made under the nose (above the lips)
Inpatient/Outpatient Procedure
It is usually an outpatient procedure, that is, the patient can go home the same day.
- There is tape and/or splint on the nose for 7-10 days
- You can get back to normal work after 1 to 2 weeks
- All the stitches are self-dissolving
- Any strenuous activity can be performed after 2 to 3 weeks
- The final appearance usually takes 3-4 months or sometimes over an year
Nose job surgery should be performed by an experienced, board-certified surgeon to avoid complications. Risks can be minimised, but not fully eliminated, due to varying circumstances.
