Face Implant(Facial contouring, Face augmentation)
Facial implants help enhance features of the face that are unduly small in proportion to the rest of the face. A cheek implant is one of the most commonly operated surgeries. Facial implants are specially formed solid materials compatible with human tissues, designed to enhance or augment the physical structure of your face. The precise type and size of facial implants best suited for you require an evaluation of your goals, and the features you wish to correct. While any area of your face can be augmented with implants, the cheeks, chin, and jaw are the most common sites for using them. If you are bothered by a small chin, weak jaw, or lack of facial contour, plastic surgery with facial implants may benefit you.
Candidacy
- You have a weak, receding chin and wish to improve the appearance of your profile by increasing the projection of your chin
- You have an undefined or weak jawline that does not help frame your face or distinguish your neck
- You wish to enhance the definition and fullness of your cheeks
- You wish to restore contour and proportion to your facial structure made deficient by ageing
- You wish to correct facial deformities resulting from injury or congenital conditions
Benefits of Face Implant
- Enhance a facial feature
- Bring problem areas in proportion
- Improve facial harmony
- Permanent result
- Predictable outcome
Procedure
The procedure for placing facial implants follow a similar pattern for all facial areas.
- Surgical markings are drawn on the face to assist the surgeon in an implant placement, and to indicate the location of underlying structures to avoid.
- The patient is positioned face up on the operating table and general anaesthesia is given, along with a local anaesthetic.
- A small incision is made where the implant is to be placed.
- A pocket is made in the facial tissue in which to insert the implant.
- The implant is gently inserted using a sterilized clamp.
- The incision is closed with sutures and bandaged/taped.
- Corrects facial asymmetry and deficiencies, especially in the chin, cheek or jaw.
- Does not require procedures on other parts of the body (such as fat grafting from one’s abdomen to add volume to one’s face).
- Procedures are relatively quick to perform and have permanent results.
- Infection is possible, which could lead to the implant’s removal.
- Contour abnormalities can occur if implants shift or become malpositioned.
- Damage to facial nerves and musculature is possible.
Inpatient/Outpatient Procedure
It is an outpatient procedure, that is, the patient can go home the same day.
The patient can return to work and normal activities within in few days. The patient should not consume alcohol after surgery. Bruising and swelling will disappear after several weeks.
The results are immediately visible. The benefit stays for a long term.
