A balanced facial profile relies on two key features: your nose and chin. If your chin is under-defined, your profile will look disproportionate. Dr. Sandeep Sharma redefines your chin contour for a more proportionate appearance. Augmenting a person’s chin often makes a dramatic difference in a person’s face and overall personality. Many times, clients come seeking a reduction in their nose sizes which they perceive as big, while the actual issue is that they have a small, retruded chin. Augmenting the chin brings it in harmony with the rest of the face. Aesthetically, a strong, broad chin is considered attractive in men. A more delicate, narrow chin is generally considered appealing in women.
In this time-tested technique, we use a Silastic implant to augment the chin size. The jawline can also be augmented at the same time if needed. The implant is inserted through an incision accessed from inside the mouth, us leaving no tell-tale mark of the procedure.
In this technique, limited-quality fat is harvested from your lower body. This is processed and then injected into the chin area as per the required need. It is a safe procedure, usually done under local anaesthesia. It is best suited for those seeking small volume augmentation. For larger size augmentations more than one session may be required.
Side effects from chin augmentation may include infection, hematoma (internal bleeding), a shift in implant position, and poor scarring.
This is a daycare procedure, i.e. most patients can go home the same day.
The results are immediately visible. The benefit stays for a long term.
A chin strap dressing may be placed to keep pressure on the implant and to improve adherence of the soft tissue to the mandible. This is typically removed after 1-3 days. A soft diet may also be advised for 1-7 days. If an intra-oral approach is used, peroxide rinses may be prescribed after each meal. Some discomfort, mild pain, swelling, redness and bruising, along with tenderness to touch is expected. Candidates can typically resume normal function within a week.
